Modeling Magnetism — Distance Learning Workshop

Spring 2027 | Led by Shannon McLaughlin and Geoff Nunes

The Modeling Magnetism distance learning course explores the fundamental principles of magnetism focusing on magnetic forces, field geometries, and electromagnetic induction. Participants will gain practical strategies to guide students through Faraday's Law, Lenz's Law, and the behavior of moving charges in magnetic fields.

Topics covered include:

• Magnetic Forces on Moving Charges

• Magnetic Forces on Current-Carrying Wires

• Magnetic Fields of Currents

• Electromagnetic Induction & Faraday’s Law

Meets for 5 weeks, 3 hours per week for a total of 15 hours

LOCATION: The workshop will meet synchronously via Zoom.

DATES: Feb 7th through March 7th on Sunday evenings

TIMES: 7-10 PM Eastern, 6-9 PM Central, 5-8 MT, 4-7 Pacific;

COST: members: $400; non-members $475

GRADUATE-LEVEL CREDIT: 1 optional Graduate-level credit is available from University of Pacific.
